Obama takes delegate lead in Democratic primary

NBC reports that for the first time in the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary, Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton in terms of overall delegates.

Obama leads Clinton 1078 - 969 in terms of delegates selected in Democratic Primaries and Caucuses, and 1306 - 1270, including unelected "super delegates" who have already committed to a candidate.

Obama has now won 8 consecutive primaries or caucuses, and holds a 21-10 lead over Clinton in terms of states won. However, Clinton has won larger states, including California and New York and holds a commanding lead in terms of pledged "super delegates", which includes elected office holders and members of the Democratic Party apparatus.
