Hanson files for State Representative

Former McMinnville city councilman, Bernt (Al) Hanson, has filed as the Democratic candidate for State Representative in House District 24.

Hanson, an attorney, is a longtime resident of McMinnville. He has run for various offices, including circuit court judge, and District Attorney.

The district featured one of Oregon's closest legislative races in 2006, when 3-term Republican incumbent, Donna Nelson, defeated Democratic challenger Sal Peralta, by 350 votes.

Nelson has indicated that she does not plan to seek a 5th term, and rumors are floating in McMinnville that State Senator Gary George is recruiting her to run for County Commissioner. 2 Republicans, Jim Weidner and Ed Glad, have also filed for the seat.

House district 24 has been a reliably Republican seat since County Commissioner Leslie Lewis defeated incumbent Democrat Marliyn Dell in 1996, but the district has been trending Democratic for the last 2 election cycles.
