Open Season on Wolves

After more than a decade of protection under federal law, the US Department of Fish and Wildlife has de-listed wolves as endangered species in most of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.

With the removal of Federal protections, states will now manage their own wildlife recovery programs. In Wyoming, wolves will be classified as a predator species -- one that people may kill at any time for any reason throughout most of the state.

Earthwatch, a group that focuses on the preservation of endangered species will seek a court order forcing the restoration of protections for wolves under the Endangered Species Act.

There are fewer than 4500 wolves currently living in the wild in the lower 48 states.
