Interview with congressional candidate, Joel Haugen (video)
What follows is an eighteen minute video with GOP congressional candidate, Joel Haugen, who supports energy independence by 2018, a withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, and has endorsed Barack Obama. His campaign made national news recently when Oregon Independent revealed that Oregon's Republican Party had taken an official position not to allow him to participate in party events.

Wu has gone along to get along for far too long, if you ask me. Joel seems very insightful, intelligent, and capable. I just hope Wu's NY and PAC money doesn't drown him before he has a chance to swim. Those DLCers don't lie down too easily in elections.
Joel Haugen, this Democrat's choice
I am basically a "Good Democrat", but I have found it increasingly difficult to support David Wu, to the extent that, 2 years ago November, I wrote in Alexa Lewis, his Primary opponent, and I am proud to say, now a friend. I was planning this time to write in Will Hobbs, who I am also proud to call "friend". But I kept hearing murmers (not to mention the Oregonian endorsement) about this "Moderate Republican" fellow from Vernonia running in opposition to David Wu. So I decided to investigate his Candidacy, and found him to be quite personable and approachable...He was even willing to meet with me for over an hour, and answer my questions candidly. Since I was raised by a most honorable pair of Moderate Republicans, I recognized a truly honorable man. So I have decided, as an open-minded Democrat, to not only Endorse him, but to sign on to his Campaign as a volunteer. It seems that, if the major criterion for some is to vote for a candidate based primarily on the initial after one's name, this may be part of why this Country is in such a dire predicament. I just hope that the reasonable 70% of Republicans who identified with his platform and supported him in the Primary will also vote for him come November. I know for a 24-Karat fact that there are many other Democrats who will also vote for him. It might even simply be boiled down to the fact that we want a "Representative", not just a "Congressman". We in the First District were NOT represented by the "yea" vote on the Bankruptcy "Reform" Bill, or the (Deciding) vote on the Medicare Prescription Boondoggle...er, I mean, Bill...These Bills favored Corporations over Citizens, and Mr. Wu's votes were unacceptable. I am quite certain that a Representative Haugen would have voted "Nay" on both of these Bills. My main regret about supporting him is thay we will be sending him out-of-state for prolonged periods- but I am also confident that, when he is elected, he will not be a stranger to his District.
