Death with Dignity turns 10
Oregon's Death with Dignity Act, which allows terminally ill patients to control their end of life care, was first passed by voters in 1994.
Implementation of the measure was delayed by court injunction until Oct 27 1997, after a petition to stop the act was denied by the 9th circuit court of appeals.
At this time, Oregon remains the only state in the US to permit doctor-assisted suicide for terminally ill patients.
